Sarah

Sarah Ellis is a multi-faceted artist based in New York City. Her career spans theater, film, dance, commercials, and symphony work.

  • A three-stoplight-town upbringing with a heavy dose of music education (band director parents) led Sarah to juggle clarinet, cello, ballet, choir, theatre, track and field, french club…let's just say she’s a polite midwesterner recovering from an over-scheduled childhood.

She earned her BFA in Musical Theatre from Penn State University - a recipient of the Margaret ‘Peg’ French Award for Undergraduate Theatre - and made a beeline for The Big Apple where she’s lived and worked until March 17th, 2020.

  • When the industry shuttered, a "week-long getaway" to see her new beau, Brad, in Kalamazoo morphed into a two-year Michigan residency. While theatre was on pause, the mitten state brought a wealth of opportunities in voiceover, print, and commercial work.

  • Brad went from "new beau" to "new hubby" – Sarah and Brad tied the knot August 2023 on Mackinac Island. Now they're living their best married lives back in the city with their furry companion, Eliza, in tow.

In addition to stage and concert work, Sarah produces musical short films and continues to consult and shape work with select indie film collaborators. She also harnesses her storytelling skills as a copywriter for brands, products, and personalities.

Her artistic pursuits are a tribute to her father, Barry L Ellis (Jan 31, 1960-Oct 20, 2018). His memory continues to resonate in the music made by his students, friends, and family.

FILMMAKER

While she doesn't shy away from the camera, Sarah's heart beats for the creative process behind the camera, shaping stories and bringing them to life. She’s found a niche in producing musical short films, and served as 1st AD/Line Producer for the upcoming short Could Be. She continues to consult and shape work with select indie film collaborators. In the commercial world Sarah writes, produces, serves as a creative director, secures locations, and freelances in various aspects of production.

On a mission to give voice to an emerging generation of musical theatre creatives, and recognizing a resurgence in enthusiasm for musicals on screens large and small, Sarah co-created MT SHORTS, an indie production company that champions emerging writers through original musical short films. Their most recent short STILL HERE just completed a successful festival run on the heels of their multi-award-winning maiden musical short HEY BEAUTIFUL. MT SHORTS was recognized by ZOOM at their 2020 Zoomtopia Innovation Awards, for repurposing the platform as a film set for their musical short HIGH SCHOOL ZOOMSICAL – premiered as a LIVE broadcast with Broadway Unlocked, raising money for The Fund For College Auditions. They also commissioned and developed an original musical short film JUMP for the Atlanta Workshop Players summer film intensive. Its New York City premiere was produced in partnership with Broadway Night NYC.
